Tropical Kona Kava Smoothie
This is another user-submitted recipe. In return (besides the fame and fortune that comes with having your own kava recipe published), we've sent them a package of Kona Kava Powdered Root. Thanks for this one, Jay!
1. Take 1 banana, sliced up and put into a blender.
2. Then about 1 and a half coffee mugs full of orange juice is added to the blender.
3. Then about 1/4 cup of milk is added.
4. Then two ice cubes are added.
5. Then about 1/4 cup canned (or fresh) pineapple chunks are added. (Pineapple is optional)
6. Then 1-2 heaping spoonful of kona kava powdered root is added.
7. All of this is then blended thoroughly for about 5 minutes.
8. Pour into cups, drink and enjoy.
The yield is about 2 coffee mugfuls.
FROZEN TREAT: Or if you would rather enjoy a frozen treat, pour the above kava smoothie into a plastic cup and freeze it. Then scrape with a spoon and enjoy.
VARIATION: Another variation would be freezing the orange juice beforehand in cubes and use those instead of regular ice cubes. You could also slice up the banana and freeze it as well. Same with the pineapple chunks. The flavor won't be effected with this variation, it will just be more of an icy treat.
The flavor is almost identical to the delicious desert that my dad makes. The bitterness of kava is completely eliminated, although there is a subtle kava twist. The effects of the kava are definitely felt. I feel relaxed and anxiety free.
EXTRA TIPS: I'm sure adding more kava will intensify the effects of the kava, and will intensify the kava flavor, which bitterness can be countered by adding honey to taste. Or you can make a large batch of this kava smoothie and drink several mug fulls, possibly even as a meal substitute or as part of a meal; as there will be 2 bananas, and 1/2 cup of pineapple.
I hope you enjoy this drink as much as I did.
